Extension Policies
Our guidelines help ensure a successful and positive experience for all.
General Requirements
For adults who want to grow their skills
CCA Extension is a year-round adult education program reserved for students who are age 18 and older. Though many of our courses are foundational, we highly encourage all prospective students to review the required or recommended background skills that accompany each course description. This will help ensure you have the best experience possible as you build on your creative exploration.
It is not recommended that you miss more than two sessions of a course. Late registrations are not allowed if a class has already met for two sessions.
Community Discounts
We recognize our fellow educators and donors
CCA Extension offers discounts for educators and donors, which must be applied at time of purchase as we cannot offer retroactive discounts. If you’re registering for more than one CCA Extension course, you must register for all courses at once. We will discount the two most expensive courses. Material or lab fees will not be discounted.
Educator discount
Receive a 25% tuition discount if you are an employee of an educational institution. This includes middle and high school teachers, higher education professionals, and community-based or nonprofit arts organizations employees. There is a limit of two courses per semester for this discount (not to exceed four courses in one academic year). Please email [email protected] with proof of employment to request a discount code or call/text +1 415-610-7004 for questions.
Alumni discount
CCA alumni are eligible for a 20% discount. Email [email protected] to request a discount code.
Donors discount
CCA donors who give a gift to the college of $500 or more are eligible for a 20% discount the same year the donation is made. For more information, please contact [email protected].
Outside Funding
Register with grant or Americorps funding
Educational grant or Americorps funding is also applicable as payment for a CCA Extension course. Follow these steps:
- Contact your funding organization with your intent to enroll in CCA Extension and have them write an Education Award Payment Request.
- Email [email protected] the class or classes you'd like to register in and your Education Award Payment Request.
- Once we confirm with your organization that payment is being sent, we will register you for the CCA Extension course of your choosing. (If the course is canceled, the payment will be refunded to the organization, not the student.)
Refund Policy
Eligibility requirements for a refund
To obtain a tuition refund for a CCA Extension course, you must submit a formal withdrawal by written notice to [email protected]. Any kind of refund given from an injury or illness requires a doctor's note. Please allow two weeks to process all refund requests.
Refunds of tuition or fees and exemption from payment obligations are not available if the institution fails or becomes limited in making complete, quality, or timely delivery of educational or other services due to pandemic, weather or air quality, governmental action, strikes, work stoppages or other labor and civic unrest, or other regional or national disasters.
Tuition refunds
Tuition refunds are prorated on the terms outlined below. We calculate from the day the written notice is received. Business days are Monday through Friday. Weekends are not counted as business days.
Courses meeting for 1 or 2 sessions
- 90% refund if written notice is received four business days before the first class
- No refund thereafter
Courses meeting for 3 to 6 sessions
- 90% refund if written notice is received four business days before the first class
- 80% refund if written notice is received one business day before the second class
- No refund thereafter
Courses meeting for 7 or more sessions
- 90% refund if written notice is received four business days before the first class
- 80% refund if written notice is received one business day before the second class
- 70% refund if written notice is received one business day before the third class
- No refund thereafter
Canceled or rescheduled course refunds
CCA reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any course or to change instructors. Courses may be canceled if the minimum enrollment is not met. To lessen the chance a course is canceled, please register as soon as possible. Decisions regarding course cancellations are usually made three to four days before the course start date.
If you are registered for a course that is postponed or canceled, you will be notified by email. Students in postponed courses have the choice of staying in the course or receiving a full refund. Students in canceled courses will receive a full tuition refund and all applicable fees.
Class switch policy
If you request to switch classes four or more business days before the first class, 100% of your tuition will be applied to the new class. If you request a switch fewer than four business days before the first class, the standard refund policy will determine how much tuition can be transferred. Any differences in tuition will be charged or refunded as needed.
Student Policies
CCA student accounts
All CCA Extension students are expected to follow the Student Code of Conduct.
These additional policies apply to Extension students who receive a CCA student account.
All Extension students taking courses that meet more than two sessions will receive a CCA student account. While enrolled, this account will provide access to a CCA email address and a wide range of on-campus and online resources.
Extension students who enroll in a one or two-day workshop will not receive student accounts and will check in on campus as visitors for their workshop. If you are also a CCA staff member or a current CCA degree-seeking student, you already have an active CCA login and do not need to set up an account.
After course enrollment, qualifying students will receive account set-up instructions.
Extension students are required to set up a student account and create an ID badge for campus access. Students must visibly wear badges at all times while on campus. If you lose your badge, you will need to request a replacement through Public Safety. The replacement fee is $5.
CCA account access for email and ID badge
Your username and password will provide access to a CCA email address ([email protected]), along with Google Workspace, course-specific software, and Moodle, CCA’s online learning platform.
Do not use your CCA email account to sign up for outside services, as it will be deactivated when you no longer attend classes. Back up important files at the end of your class, as deactivated accounts will be routinely cleared.
Please note: Your CCA account will be deactivated three months after your last class. If you enroll in a new class within three months of completing your previous one, your account will remain active with the same username and password, even if the new course begins after the three-month period. Your ID badge will only function while classes are in session, but keep it safe, as you can reuse it for future courses.
Shops and studio policies
After attending an orientation organized by your class, Extension students can use studio spaces and equipment relevant to their classes during scheduled class times. Use of studio spaces outside of class time is not permitted unless approved by a studio manager and the class instructor. All Extension students are subject to the CCA Shops, Safety, and Conduct Rules.
Check-out center policies
All students are responsible for any checked-out items and will be charged a replacement fee for any lost items.
Fabrication: Resource Hub
If applicable to your class, students may also receive Resource Hub access. Please visit the Resource Hub homepage for information on tool checkouts and fines.
If individual project storage is needed, students may check out a locker. Locker checkout is valid for the duration of the course and must be cleared out at the end of the class.
Library
Extension students who are currently enrolled in a course and meet the requirements for a CCA account, ID card, and email may register for a CCA Library account in person at the Circulation Desk. Extension students may borrow up to five library items for one week with one renewal.
Media Center
To use the Media Center, students must read and sign the Media Center User Agreement.
Computer lab, software use, and printing
Extension students may drop in to Computer Lab 240 on the second floor of the Main Building. Use of any additional computer labs will be scheduled with the class.
Extension student accounts do not grant individual licenses to Adobe Creative Cloud for use on personal computers, mobile phones, and tablets. Adobe Creative Cloud is available to students when courses meet on campus in computer labs. In some cases, other course-specific software may be available.
To print on campus, students may set up a PaperCut account and add their own funds to the account. PaperCut credit is nonrefundable and nontransferable. Please review directions for On-Campus Printing.
