February 12, 2026

Diedrick Brackens (MFA Fine Arts 2014), assistant professor of Textiles, opens gather tender night, his first solo exhibition in the Bay Area, at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on March 13.

Portrait of Deeds Brackens.

Organized by guest curator Eungie Joo, the exhibition features fifteen tapestries created since 2020, including three new works. Executed on the loom in hand-dyed cotton fiber and acrylic yarn, Brackens' weavings explore tenderness, migration, and connections with the natural world. Single and paired figures inhabit resplendent depictions of water, flora, and fauna throughout the works.

Brackens earned his MFA at CCA, where he studied under textile artist Josh Faught, and rejoined the college as faculty in 2024. His work appears in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum, the Hammer Museum, LACMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others.
