Sitting with Works in Progress III
The Rewind Review Respond (RRR) series is a student-led publication at CCA featuring reviews and reflections on recent events. Entirely written and edited by students, this series uplifts their voices and perspectives.

Guests interact with the bench installations during the opening day of Works in Progress III at the CCA Campus Gallery, 2025.
Over 500 visitors lined up around the block for Works in Progress III, an exhibition at the CCA Campus Gallery that transformed the humble public bench into a site of artistic experimentation, social commentary, and community gathering. Organized by CCA alum Kate Greenberg (BFA Furniture 2020) and interior designer Kelley Perumbeti, the show featured eight benches that reimagined furniture as both an object and an experience.
In this review, Elisabeth Cobb-Hughes (MFA Industrial Design 2025) offers a vivid, firsthand account of the event’s energy—from kids climbing through ceramic voids to guests breaking gallery norms by sitting on and interacting with the works. The artist talk extended the conversation with reflections on wear, access, memory, and the politics of public space.
Through detailed moments and conversations with the artists, the story captures Works in Progress III as an ongoing dialogue about who public spaces are for, and how materials, design, and community intersect in a changing city.
